Dubai, The Gulf Observer: In a monumental development for the UAE’s space ambitions, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, and President of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), has officially greenlit the launch of the MBZ-SAT, scheduled for no earlier than October 2024. This approval underscores a significant advancement in the nation’s space exploration initiatives.

During his visit to the headquarters of MBRSC, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan received a comprehensive briefing on the latest updates and forthcoming phases of the MBZ-SAT project. Accompanied by Talal Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, Vice President of MBRSC, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan was apprised of the satellite’s advanced capabilities and its pivotal role in the UAE Satellite Programme.

Emphasizing the transformative impact of the upcoming launch, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan expressed confidence in MBRSC’s capabilities to elevate the UAE’s standing in the global space industry. He highlighted the nation’s commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships and innovative endeavors to extend its influence in space technology.

During his visit, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan toured the clean room housing the MBZ-SAT and ceremoniously endorsed a plaque adorned with the satellite’s logo. He engaged with the team responsible for the satellite’s development, gaining insights into its technical specifications and objectives.

Following successful development, the MBZ-SAT will undergo crucial environmental testing to ensure its resilience in space conditions. Once testing is complete, final preparations for launch, scheduled aboard a SpaceX rocket, will commence.

The MBZ-SAT, entirely developed by Emirati engineers, represents a significant leap in technological prowess. Its construction has catalyzed advancements in local aerospace manufacturing, with nearly 90% of its mechanical structures and electronic modules produced by local companies.

Equipped with a state-of-the-art camera capable of capturing high-resolution images, the MBZ-SAT will serve diverse applications, including mapping, environmental monitoring, and disaster relief efforts. Its rapid data turnaround capability will support global users across various sectors.
