In sync with the annual observance of World Heritage Day, the Sultanate of Oman, through the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, pays homage to its rich cultural legacy while embracing the global ethos of diversity and heritage appreciation. This year’s celebration holds particular significance as it coincides with the launch of Sur as the Arab Tourism Capital 2024, spotlighting the city’s historical treasures and cultural vibrancy nestled within the Wilayat of Sur.

With an emphasis on documentation, restoration, and global recognition of key sites, the Ministry aligns its endeavors with the overarching objectives of Oman Vision 2040, fostering economic growth while safeguarding national heritage.

Notably, Oman boasts approximately 36,000 registered archaeological sites, with ongoing restoration efforts targeting 366 historical monuments across various governorates. These initiatives are integral to preserving Oman’s cultural identity and ensuring that its rich heritage endures as a testament to the nation’s enduring legacy across the ages.
