Beijing, The Gulf Observer: Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday attended a reception in Beijing to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

The reception, held a day ahead of China’s National Day, was organized by the State Council. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang addressed the reception, while Vice Premier Han Zheng presided over it.

Regarding China’s economy, Li stressed the importance of stabilizing the economic fundamentals to ensure operations of market entities and security in employment and basic living needs.

Li reiterated that reform and opening-up is China’s fundamental state policy. He called for a high level of openness to the outside world, efforts to stabilize foreign trade and foreign investment and deepen multi-bilateral economic and trade cooperation, so that China will always be a hotspot of foreign investment and achieve win-win development.

China will consolidate the results of poverty eradication, properly resettle and provide assistance to people affected by disasters, secure the bottom line of the basic livelihood of people in difficulty, and work on practical matters such as education, medical care, elderly care and housing security to continuously improve people’s welfare.

Li urged efforts to fully implement the principles of “One Country, Two Systems,” “the people of Hong Kong governing Hong Kong,” “the people of Macao governing Macao,” and a high degree of autonomy for the two special administrative regions.

Calling for adherence to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, Li said China resolutely opposes “Taiwan independence” forces and interference by external forces, and actively promotes the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.

China adheres to the road of peaceful development and the promotion of building a community with a shared future, he added.
