Washington, The Gulf Observer: The proposed sale of F-16 fighter jets from the United States to Türkiye has successfully passed through the review and objection process in the US Congress. The process, which lasted for 15 days after the official notification sent to Congress by the US State Department on January 26, concluded on Saturday night.
During the review period, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul submitted the sole objection to the sale, presenting his proposal to the Senate on Saturday. However, the proposal was subsequently referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and no further action was taken on the objection.
With no additional objections raised during the review and objection process, there are no remaining obstacles to initiating the next steps in the sale of F-16s between the United States and Türkiye. The conclusion of the 15-day period marks a pivotal milestone, allowing the relevant institutions in the United States to proceed with the sale under the guidelines of the US Arms Export Control Act (AECA).
This development underscores the diplomatic and strategic cooperation between the United States and Türkiye, contributing to the strengthening of defense capabilities and fostering continued collaboration between the two nations.
