Lukashenko Urges Closer Belarus-Serbia Ties in Meeting with Vucic at COP29 in Baku
Baku, The Gulf Observer: Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has called for stronger bilateral relations between Belarus and Serbia during a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, held on the sidelines of the COP29 climate conference in Baku. Reflecting on three decades of diplomatic ties between Minsk and Belgrade, Lukashenko emphasized the need for revitalized cooperation amid the evolving political landscape.
“Over the past thirty years, much has been achieved, but our countries have also experienced tremendous changes,” said Lukashenko, according to media reports. “While we have made progress, our relations lack the dynamism we both aspire to. We recognize the existing obstacles, and it’s time to address them.”
To foster this vision, Lukashenko proposed convening the intergovernmental commission to assess bilateral relations and draft plans for further cooperation. He suggested that outdated elements be removed to make way for new initiatives. Following the commission’s assessment, he recommended a visit to Serbia by the Belarusian prime minister and an exchange of government delegations to outline an actionable roadmap.
Lukashenko acknowledged the challenges Serbia faces due to its geopolitical position, stating, “Serbia’s unique circumstances and long-standing friendships with Russia and Belarus are vital. We are true friends, and Serbia should keep this in mind as it navigates its international policy.”
This discussion underscores Belarus’s commitment to bolstering its partnership with Serbia and enhancing regional stability and cooperation.
