President Prabowo Subianto Arrives in Peru for APEC Summit
Lima, The Gulf Observer: President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto landed at Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru, on Wednesday at 10:35 p.m. local time, marking the start of his official agenda in South America. The visit will see him participate in the 2024 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and engage in bilateral discussions with leaders from various countries.
Upon his arrival, President Prabowo was welcomed by Peruvian Agriculture Minister Angel Manuel Manero Campos and Indonesian Ambassador to Peru Ricky Suhendar, along with other dignitaries. He received a ceremonial guard of honor from the Peruvian military before departing to his accommodation in Lima.
The Indonesian delegation includes Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Trade Minister Budi Santoso, and Presidential Special Envoy for National Defense Dudung Abdurachman, who greeted the president at the hotel.
Earlier, President Prabowo departed from Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, D.C., following a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden. During their discussions, held at the White House on Tuesday, the leaders addressed key issues, including Palestine’s statehood, climate action, sustainable development, Myanmar’s humanitarian crisis, and Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals program.
Additionally, President Prabowo met with representatives from the United States-Indonesia Society (USINDO) and executives from major American corporations, including ExxonMobil, GE Healthcare, Boeing, Freeport McMoRan, Caterpillar, S&P Global, and BP America. The discussions focused on strengthening economic ties and exploring collaborative opportunities in defense, healthcare, and energy sectors.
President Prabowo’s presence at the APEC Summit is anticipated to reinforce Indonesia’s role in the Asia-Pacific region and promote economic cooperation, innovation, and sustainable growth.
