Qatar indicators show GDP growth of 4.3% in first half of 2022
Doha, The Gulf Observer: Qatar’s Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said that Qatar’s economy continued to grow this year after the decline in 2020 and preliminary data indicate GDP growth during the first half of the year by 4.3%.
The Amir H H delivered a speech at the opening of the second ordinary session of the first legislative term, corresponding to the Shura Council’s 51st annual session, and he began his speech by saying that “Our meeting today is characterized by the fact that it takes place as we prepare to host one of our most important national projects, which is the World Cup”.
He also added that “Since we won the honour of hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Qatar has been subjected to an unprecedented campaign that no host country has been exposed to. We initially dealt with the matter in good faith and even considered some of the criticism to be positive and useful”.
However, the campaign continues and expands and includes slander and double standards until it has reached such a level that many have unfortunately wondered about the real reasons and motives behind this campaign, the Amir added.
It is an occasion which will show, not only the strength of our economy and our institutions, but also in terms our civilizational identity, Amir said.
He further added, “The comprehensive development of the country remains the supreme goal that the state is working to achieve and is steadily moving forward in fulfilling its requirements at all levels in accordance with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the desired goals.” Regarding economy, the Amir said that the high energy prices have so far translated into a budget surplus of 47.3 billion Qatari Riyals, adding that “the budget surplus will be directed to reducing the level of public debt and increasing the state’s fiscal reserves”.
