Kumamoto, The Gulf Observer: Men’s doubles shuttlers Tan Wee Kiong and Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub have made history by advancing to the semi-finals of the Japan Masters, marking their first-ever World Tour Super 500 semi-final appearance. The duo achieved a thrilling 21-19, 21-19 victory over Taiwan’s two-time Olympic champion Wang Chi-lin and his new partner Chiu Hsiang-chieh in Kumamoto on Friday, November 15.

They will next face Japan’s Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi, the 2021 world champions, in a high-stakes match for a spot in the final.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s singles ace, Lee Zii Jia, was knocked out of the tournament after a tough 21-12, 18-21, 18-21 loss to Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie. The match lasted 64 minutes, and despite Zii Jia’s strong performance, he was unable to overcome the world No. 6, ending his run in the competition.
