China Launches Investigation into EU’s Foreign Subsidy Practices

China

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOC) announced on Wednesday the initiation of a trade and investment barrier investigation into the European Union’s (EU) practices in foreign subsidy investigations. This move follows a request from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, whose qualifications and documentation have been verified by the MOC.

The investigation aims to scrutinize the EU’s foreign subsidies regulation, which has led to preliminary, in-depth, and raid investigations into Chinese companies operating in various sectors, including locomotives, photovoltaics, wind power, and security check equipment. The MOC intends to evaluate the EU’s methodologies and practices in these investigations.

To collect comprehensive data, the MOC will conduct surveys, hearings, and on-site activities, engaging all relevant stakeholders in the process. The investigation is scheduled to conclude by January 10, 2025, with a possible extension to April 10, 2025, under special circumstances.

This investigation marks a significant step in addressing trade and investment barriers and reflects China’s commitment to ensuring fair treatment of its enterprises in international markets.
