Turkmenistan Hosts Presentation of Magtymguly Pyragy’s Poetry Translated into Georgian

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: On September 30, 2024, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a distinguished presentation of a collection of poems by the revered Turkmen poet and philosopher Magtymguly Pyragy, newly translated into Georgian.

The ceremony, organized by Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, brought together a notable audience that included representatives from the Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs, members of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, literary scholars, journalists, professors, and students. Media representatives also attended, adding to the event’s significance.

Speakers at the presentation underscored the universal appeal of Magtymguly’s works, highlighting that his poetry is not only a national treasure of Turkmenistan but also a valuable part of the world’s cultural heritage. His verses, which reflect profound themes of humanism, peace, friendship, and patriotism, continue to resonate across diverse cultures, fostering mutual understanding and appreciation.

His Excellency Konstantin Sabiashvili, the Georgian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, lauded the translation as a significant contribution to the cultural dialogue between Georgia and Turkmenistan. In his address, he emphasized that the project strengthens the bond between the two nations by bringing Magtymguly’s timeless messages to Georgian readers. The event was further enriched by video messages from Georgian writers and scholars, who echoed the ambassador’s sentiments and celebrated the translation as a symbol of enduring friendship and collaboration.

Concluding the event, participants expressed optimism that this new translation would allow Georgian-speaking audiences to gain a deeper appreciation of the legacy and philosophy of Magtymguly Pyragy, contributing to the preservation and promotion of his timeless literary contributions.

Earlier, on September 12, 2024, as part of the 300th anniversary celebrations of Magtymguly Pyragy’s birth, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Tbilisi also hosted a similar presentation of the poet’s works in Georgian. These events symbolize a deepening of cultural ties and mutual respect between Turkmenistan and Georgia.
