Oman Joins Global Efforts at COP29 to Combat Climate Change and Achieve Carbon Neutrality

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Sultanate of Oman is actively participating in the ongoing deliberations at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The summit brings together global leaders to address the urgent need to mitigate climate change risks and reduce global greenhouse gas emissions.

Ibrahim Ahmed Al Ajmi, Head of Oman’s negotiating team at COP29, highlighted the country’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. He emphasized that Oman’s 2050 carbon neutrality plan is an integral part of its national policies to reduce carbon emissions, a move that has garnered international recognition and commendation.

“COP29 is an important platform to discuss the national efforts and international cooperation needed to reach our shared climate goals. It is a critical opportunity to enhance strategies, build human capacities, and implement initiatives that will safeguard the Earth from the devastating impacts of climate change,” said Al Ajmi.

Dr. Ghazi Ali Al Rowas, a member of the Omani negotiating team, added that Oman has been actively involved in the negotiations of various amendments and articles at the conference, collaborating with global counterparts to ensure comprehensive agreements.

The ongoing discussions at COP29 focus on providing necessary financial resources to developing countries, enabling them to implement national climate adaptation plans, achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and advance technology transfer. Building national capacities to combat climate change is also a key focus of the conference.
