President Prabowo Advocates Economic Collaboration Between Indonesia and Brazil at Business Forum

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: President Prabowo Subianto has called for enhanced economic cooperation between Indonesia and Brazil, citing shared strengths and mutual opportunities. Speaking at the Indonesia–Brazil Business Forum at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, November 17, he emphasized the potential for synergy in key sectors.

“Both countries have vast resources. Brazil is highly advanced in its industries. We are working to catch up as we strive to industrialize,” President Prabowo remarked, as stated in a press release from the Cabinet Secretariat on Monday.

The President praised Brazil’s leadership within the BRICS group and reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to joining the bloc. He highlighted Brazil’s experience in food security programs as a model Indonesia aims to adopt, noting that ensuring free food for children is a priority for his administration.

Expanding Collaboration Across Sectors

President Prabowo also revealed plans to strengthen ties with Brazil through the Indonesian Embassy and the Brazilian ambassador in Jakarta. He underscored opportunities in renewable energy, focusing on biofuels, as Indonesia aims to increase biodiesel usage to 50 percent by 2025 with palm oil as the primary input.

In the maritime sector, he drew attention to Indonesia’s status as one of the world’s top nations in fishery reserves but noted a shortage of 40,000 fishing vessels with 150–300 GT capacity. Prabowo extended an invitation to Brazilian investors to support this industry while aligning with Indonesia’s broader natural resource downstreaming initiatives.

Commitment to Investment-Friendly Policies

At the forum, Prabowo reassured participants of Indonesia’s dedication to creating a favorable business environment for foreign investors, encouraging Brazilian companies to explore opportunities in the nation’s rapidly evolving economy.

The forum concluded with a reaffirmation of both nations’ shared aspirations for sustainable growth and strengthened bilateral ties, reflecting their commitment to collaborative progress.
