Bahrain to host 1st GWECCC
Manama, The Gulf Observer: Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak Bin Daina Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, announced the launch of the first edition of GWECCC, held under the patronage of Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister.
The congress will be held from 5-7 September, aimed at offering a platform to exchange good practices and lessons learned about the development and utilisation of water and energy resources, ensuring their proper use, and addressing the interrelationship between water, energy, and climate change among GCC countries, Asia and the Middle East.
The GWECCC is a focused environmental event to be hosted by GCC countries this year, which aims to consolidate efforts to enhance sustainability, security of water and energy resources amid global concern to reduce climate change and to contribute to the implementation of environmental programmes and policies.
In light of the global concern to reduce the impact of climate change and develop effective solutions to adapt to the challenges facing the world, Bin Daina thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for his esteemed patronage of this important event, which represents the government’s determination to continue the efforts aimed at enhancing the sustainability and security of water and energy resources.
Bin Daina chaired the Congress Advisory Committee meeting, where they discussed the latest arrangements and preparations for organising the event, in the presence of Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, Ibrahim bin Hassan Al Hawaj, Minister of Works, Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and a number of senior officials from GCC Companies.
The meeting highlighted ways to provide all means of support to achieve the desired goals that would contribute to setting supportive policies for the preservation of natural resources through the implementation of a number of environmental initiatives and programmes, and plans to reducing carbon emissions.
“This congress is a great opportunity for senior officials from various industrial and environmental fields to discuss challenges and opportunities and learn from global best practices and advanced technologies in the field of water and energy,” Bin Daina said.
The Minister of Oil praised the ongoing collaboration between GCC countries in organising these specialised events, including the GWECCC, which is considered a kick-off for important events to follow, along with other significant events in the environmental sector, including the MENA Climate Week (MENACW) scheduled for October in Riyadh, and the UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) scheduled for November in Dubai.
MENACW is set to discuss a number of pressing topics related to enabling policies for sustainable management of water and energy in climate change, investing for water and energy sustainability, the energy trilemma on affordability, security and sustainability, emerging technologies and solutions for water and energy sustainability, and the role of community in water and energy security.
The conference will also include a number of accompanying events, such as the Technology and Youth Forums, and a Technology Exhibition with participants from a number of specialised companies to highlight the state-of the-art technologies and best practices.
GWECCC is organised in cooperation with the Water Resources Council, ICONEX Global and a number of Local, Regional and international organisations such as Saudi Aramco, Bapco Energies, Kuwait National Petroleum Company, Petroleum Development Oman and University of Bahrain, ACWA Power, Aluminum Bahrain, ENOWA.NEOM, the Labor Fund (Tamkeen), Saudi Water Partnership Company etc.
