Bahrain Commemorates World Ozone Day
Manama, The Gulf Observer: Bahrain is marking World Ozone Day, celebrating the 37th anniversary of the Montreal Protocol under the theme “Montreal Protocol: Fixing the Ozone Layer and Reducing Climate Change.” His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE), reaffirmed Bahrain’s dedication to global efforts aimed at protecting the ozone layer through innovative projects aligned with international environmental standards.
This commitment reflects the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the strong support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Highlighting Bahrain’s progress, Shaikh Abdullah noted the nation’s recent ratification of the Montreal Protocol and the Kigali Amendment, formalized through Decree (33) of 2024. These actions underscore Bahrain’s active role in international efforts to protect the ozone layer and combat climate change.
The Chairman also emphasized the SCE’s ongoing support for the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors by encouraging best practices in managing and reducing ozone-depleting substances. Bahrain aims to reduce the use of these harmful substances by 73.5% by 2025, in line with Montreal Protocol requirements and efforts to enhance international cooperation on emissions reduction.
His Highness expressed gratitude to the SCE employees and environmental workers for their dedication in advancing initiatives that contribute to protecting the ozone layer and mitigating climate change.
