Indonesia’s Initiative to Appoint Honorary Teachers as Civil Servants Praised Internationally

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The efforts by Indonesia to appoint honorary teachers as contract-based civil servants (PPPK) have garnered accolades from Education International, as stated by Unifah Rosyidi, Chairperson of the Indonesian Teachers’ Association (PGRI).
Addressing reporters in Jakarta on Saturday, Rosyidi emphasized the global shortage of teachers and commended Indonesia’s proactive steps to address this pressing issue. Education International, a prominent global teacher union headquartered in Belgium, has expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s initiatives, particularly through its Voice Global Teacher campaign.
Rosyidi underscored PGRI’s longstanding commitment to advocating for these changes, emphasizing the critical role of the government in enacting necessary reforms.
Highlighting the importance of quality education, Rosyidi emphasized the need to hire skilled teachers to meet the growing demand. Currently, the number of honorary teachers appointed as PPPK by the government stands at 540,000, falling short of the ideal target of 1 million.
After their appointment, Rosyidi stressed the importance of returning teachers to their original schools, ensuring continuity and stability within the education sector. This includes returning private sector teachers to their respective institutions, aligning with Indonesia’s commitment to providing quality education to all children.
Rosyidi acknowledged the concerns raised by various institutions, including Muhammadiyah, a prominent Islamic organization overseeing numerous schools across Indonesia, regarding the withdrawal of private teachers.
In conclusion, Rosyidi expressed hope that the government would prioritize returning PPPK teachers to their original schools as part of a broader strategy to enhance the quality of Indonesian education. This commitment reflects the government’s proactive stance towards education reform and its dedication to fostering a robust educational landscape in Indonesia.
The ongoing efforts to bolster Indonesia’s teaching workforce underscore the nation’s commitment to providing equitable and high-quality education to its youth, paving the way for a brighter future and sustained development. Stay tuned for further developments as Indonesia continues to make strides in educational reform and teacher recruitment initiatives.
