President Tokayev Calls for UN Reform, Global Trade Cooperation, and Youth Empowerment at High-Profile Interview Session
Astana, The Gulf Observer: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev participated in a special Newsmaker Interview session moderated by CNN correspondent Julia Chatterley, addressing critical global issues and Kazakhstan’s role on the international stage. The session, held as part of a high-profile event, emphasized the significance of the United Nations, trade tensions, and the contributions of youth in national development.
President Tokayev underscored the necessity of an effective United Nations, calling it an irreplaceable organization for humanity despite its current challenges. “The UN is absolutely essential to humanity; there is no alternative. Unfortunately, the absence of dialogue among major powers has led the Security Council into a deadlock. This is why reform is crucial,” Tokayev stated. He highlighted the growing influence of middle powers like Kazakhstan in fostering peace and security regionally and globally.
Addressing global trade tensions, Tokayev expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of trade conflicts and tariff measures. “Trade conflicts are not the best solution; they represent a highly doubtful policy. As a member of the WTO, Kazakhstan adheres to its norms and rules, avoiding barriers and conflicts. We have constructive and mutually beneficial relations with our regional neighbors and other states. We call on major powers to refrain from such means of pressure,” he said.
The Kazakh leader also fielded questions on pressing foreign policy matters, including the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East. He reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to promoting peaceful dialogue and constructive diplomacy.
Additionally, Tokayev addressed the pivotal role of youth in shaping Kazakhstan’s future. “Young people are the driving force of innovation and progress. Their active engagement in governance, technology, and social development is essential to our nation’s success,” he emphasized.
The interview highlighted Kazakhstan’s balanced and forward-looking approach to global diplomacy, economic cooperation, and youth empowerment, reinforcing its position as a significant middle power on the world stage.
