Abdullah bin Zayed Meets ICRC President to Discuss Humanitarian Cooperation
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to discuss joint cooperation in the humanitarian and relief sectors.
During the meeting, both parties reviewed the collaborative efforts between the UAE and the ICRC in addressing humanitarian needs in conflict zones such as the Gaza Strip, Syria, Ukraine, Sudan, and Afghanistan. They discussed initiatives by the UAE to provide humanitarian aid to these affected regions and explored ways to enhance international cooperation in support of humanitarian responses, particularly for civilians in the Gaza Strip.
The discussions also included regional and international efforts to achieve a sustainable ceasefire, which is crucial for protecting civilian lives and ensuring necessary humanitarian support for the Palestinian people. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the importance of the ICRC’s role in humanitarian and relief efforts, commending the Committee’s dedication to its noble mission.
Sheikh Abdullah reiterated the UAE’s commitment, through its humanitarian institutions, to work closely with the ICRC in extending aid and assistance to those in need globally. He highlighted the urgent need for a concerted international effort to establish a global humanitarian response system that ensures safe and uninterrupted relief for civilians in the Gaza Strip, aiming to alleviate their suffering.
The meeting was attended by Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Foreign Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs, and Ambassador Jamal Al Musharakh, the UAE’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other international organizations in Geneva.
The dialogue between Sheikh Abdullah and the ICRC President underscores the UAE’s dedication to supporting humanitarian initiatives and strengthening partnerships that enhance global humanitarian response efforts.
