Abu Dhabi Sports Council Announces Third Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo for November 2024

Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has officially announced that the third edition of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo will take place on November 16, 2024. The prestigious cycling race will feature a 150 km route, beginning in Abu Dhabi and concluding in Al Ain.

With a total prize pool of AED 2 million, the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo has quickly become one of the most prominent sports events in the UAE, showcasing Abu Dhabi’s commitment to organizing world-class cycling competitions. The event also underscores the significance of cycling in promoting general health and wellness, attracting hundreds of cycling enthusiasts.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, remarked, “The third edition of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo offers a unique experience for cycling fans, bringing together both amateur and professional cyclists on a scenic route that traverses various parts of Abu Dhabi.”

Since its inception in 2022, the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo has witnessed significant community engagement, drawing participants from diverse backgrounds. The previous edition in 2023 saw 1,200 cyclists from 75 different nationalities, residing both within and outside the UAE.

Al Awani further highlighted that the event is more than just a race; it is a celebration of cycling and societal unity. “The ultimate goal of the Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo is to promote physical fitness, encourage a healthy lifestyle, and enhance the overall quality of life for our community,” he said.

Bike Abu Dhabi is an initiative launched by the Abu Dhabi Government to align efforts towards achieving the emirate’s long-term goals of solidifying its global standing in the field of cycling. The initiative emphasizes cycling as a multifaceted activity encompassing mobility, health, entertainment, and sports.

In recognition of its sustained commitment to promoting cycling, the International Cycling Union designated Abu Dhabi as a “Bike City” in November 2021. This accolade acknowledges the emirate’s strategic efforts to foster cycling as a healthy daily activity, a sustainable mode of transportation, and an exciting competitive sport for both amateurs and professionals.

The upcoming Bike Abu Dhabi Gran Fondo promises to be a landmark event, further cementing Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a leading destination for cycling enthusiasts worldwide.
