Addressing Climate Change and Promoting Sustainability

Peshawar, The Gulf Observer: The Dr. Fareeha Sami from Department of Economics, Dr Hamida Bibi from Department of Pakistan Studies and Ms Tashfeen from Affiliations Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar in collaboration with Dosti Welfare Organized a 6th Dosti Peshawar debate, “How do environmental policies and economic strategies interact in addressing climate change and promoting sustainability?” at SBBWUP on January 16, 2024, where insightful discussions paved the way for a sustainable future. Mr Afsar Khan Deputy Director Climate Change, EPA was a Chief guest and Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. Safia Ahmad(T.I) graced the event with her presence.

The interaction between environmental policies and economic strategies is crucial in finding effective and sustainable solutions to mitigate the impacts of climate change. The urgency to address climate change is evident from the increasing frequency of extreme weather events, rising global temperatures, and other environmental crises. The tension between economic growth and environmental preservation is a global challenge. Striking a balance between the two is essential for achieving long-term sustainability. This Debate aims to explore the multidimensional aspects of climate change, sustainability, and the interaction between environmental policies and economic strategies. It served as a platform for experts to share knowledge, engage in meaningful dialogue, and contribute to the development of informed, effective, and collaborative solutions.

Understanding Interdependencies, Promoting Sustainable Development, Assessing Policy Effectiveness, Encouraging Innovation, Global Collaboration were the key components discussed there. Regional Connectivity Center SBBWU also was represented by Dr Zarmina Baloch where she discussed the impact of Climate Change on Democracy and good governance.
