ALC Takes Center Stage at the 55th Cairo International Book Fair
Abu Dhabi, The Gulf Observer: The Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, a prominent entity under the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, is actively participating in the 55th Cairo International Book Fair, unfolding its commitment to advancing the Arabic language and fostering the literary and creative industries in the Arab world.
Under the theme “We create knowledge, we preserve the word,” the ALC is showcasing over 500 titles, including 120 new publications, during the fair, emphasizing its pivotal role in supporting Arabic language initiatives.
The Fair’s agenda features a diverse range of activities, including seminars, cultural and professional meetings, specialized workshops, musical evenings, and book signings. The ALC’s involvement extends to the presentation of its flagship event, the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF) 2024’s Cultural and Professional Programmes.
Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Chairman of the ALC, expressed the significance of the Cairo International Book Fair in celebrating literature, knowledge, and Arab culture. He highlighted the platform’s role in fostering international collaboration and exploring trends in the publishing industry.
The programme commenced with a grand concert titled ‘Ana Hawayt… Ma Intahayt’ at Abdeen Palace, commemorating the centenary of musician Sayed Darwish, reinforcing the cultural dialogue between the UAE and Egypt.
During the fair, the ALC announced Egypt as the Guest of Honour at the upcoming Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2024, with Naguib Mahfouz selected as the Cultural Personality of the Year.
The cultural seminars cover various topics, including the role of libraries, translation in the era of artificial intelligence, the impact of literary awards, and grants in supporting creatives, as well as discussions on podcasts, digital platforms, and their role in enriching Arabic content. Notable sessions include the Sheikh Zayed Book Award team addressing manuscript editing challenges.
Additional events hosted at Prince Mohamed Ali Palace include a showcase of the book ‘President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan… Highlights in the journey of a man of humanity’ by Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, with a book signing session. ALC’s commitment to the arts is further emphasized through sessions focusing on books on music, integrating discussions and musical performances.
The ALC’s engagement in the Cairo International Book Fair underscores its dedication to promoting Arabic language and culture on a global stage, fostering collaboration, and celebrating the rich literary heritage of the Arab world.
