Algeria Signs Agreement to Accelerate Digitization of Consular Services

Algiers, The Gulf Observer: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Interior, Local Communities and Transport of Algeria signed an agreement on Thursday aimed at strengthening cooperation in the digitization of certain consular services.
The signing ceremony was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the presence of Secretary of State for National Community Abroad Sofiane Chaib. The agreement was signed by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lunas Muqraman, and the Director General of National Security, Ali Badawi, representing the General Directorate of National Security.
Speaking on the occasion, Muqraman highlighted that the agreement represents another important step in modernizing consular services, a priority area for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He noted that the initiative reflects the strong commitment of the Algerian government to serve its national community abroad, which President Abdelmadjid Tebboune regards as an integral component of the Algerian nation.
He added that the importance of enhancing consular services was also emphasized during the Seminar of Heads of Consular Centers held in February 2026, which produced several recommendations to improve service delivery for Algerian citizens living abroad.
The agreement aims to accelerate the processing of consular procedures through the adoption of a new digital system aligned with Algeria’s broader national digital transformation strategy.
Officials said the initiative also reflects the shared commitment of the foreign affairs and interior sectors to strengthen coordination and cooperation, contributing to ongoing government efforts to modernize public administration and improve the quality of services provided to citizens both inside the country and abroad.
