Amir of Qatar bilateral meetings with world leaders during 2022

Doha, The Gulf Observer: Amir of Qatar H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in year 2022, continued leading the country and its diplomacy at the global front by participating in different international forums, bilateral meetings with world leaders in Doha and different capitals of the world.

H H the Amir issued many important decisions in Qatar and played an important role in regional politics meant to bring stability and prosperity in the regional countries. Qatar’s role, under H H the Amir’s leadership, further grew in mediating peace deals in different restive parts of the region and beyond. Under H H the Amir’s leadership, Qatar organised the most successful FIFA World Cup, winning global praise.

In January, the Amir visited 31st Doha International Book Fair, held under the slogan ‘Knowledge is Light,’ at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center. Also in January, H H the Amir received a delegation from the Council on Arab and International Relations to greet His Highness on the occasion of their visit to the country.

On January 26, the Amir patronised the graduation ceremony of the 9th batch of candidate students of Al Zaeem Mohamed Bin Abdullah Al Attiyah Air College at Al Udeid Air Base and also visited the Technical Institute of the Qatar Armed Forces, south of Al Udeid Air Base.

The following day, the Amir patronised the graduation ceremony of the 17th batch of Ahmed bin Mohammed Military College Graduates.

On January 31, H H the Amir met US President H E Joe Biden in Washington. They reaffirmed their mutual interest in promoting security and prosperity in the Gulf and broader Middle East region. The President and the Amir welcomed the signing of a $20bn deal between Boeing and Qatar Airways Group. President Biden informed the Amir of his intention to designate Qatar as a Major Non-NATO Ally.

In the beginning of February, H H the Amir of Qatar attended the opening ceremony of the 24th Winter Olympics under the slogan “Together for a Shared Future” at the National Stadium known as the ‘Bird’s Nest’ in Beijing. The Amir and President of China H E Xi Jinping also held official talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

On February 8, the Amir participated in the activities of the National Sport Day. Also later in February, the Amir held talks with President of Algeria H E Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and President of Iran H E Ebrahim Raisi at the Amiri Diwan separately. Also the Amir attended the opening of the 6th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF).

In March, the Amir patronised the 15th Education Excellence Day Award ceremony at Doha Sheraton Hotel and also met H E Mohamed Abdullah Farmajo, President of Somalia, on March 6.

On March 8, the Amir, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Economic Affairs and Investment, chaired the council’s first meeting for 2022 while on March 10, the Amir visited Qatar Amiri Air Defense Forces Command Camp.

In March, the Amir inaugurated the Barzan Gas Project in a ceremony held at the Ras Laffan Industrial City. The Amir attended the 50th edition of H H the Amir Cup final match between Al Gharafa and Al Duhail at Khalifa International Stadium.

On march 26, the Amir of Qatar attended the opening ceremony of the 20th edition of Doha Forum, held under the theme ‘Transformation into a New Era’. In the end of March, the Amir patronised the inauguration ceremony of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum. On march 31, the Amir visited Al Sa’ad Plaza and Lusail Commercial Boulevard projects at Lusail.

On April 1, the Amir attended the final four rounds of the annual purebred Arabian camel race festival for the 2021-2022 season at Al Shahaniya. The Amir attended the FIFA World Cup’s Final Draw ceremony at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center.

On April 19, the Amir issued Amiri decision No. 18 of 2022, increasing the pensions of retired individuals.

In May, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani graced the Qatar Foundation (QF) Convocation. Also in May, the Amir visited Iran where he met President Ibrahim Raisi and also visited Turkiye where he had meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

On May 15, H H the Amir offered his condolences to President of the United Arab Emirates H H Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the death of the late H H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, at the Presidential Airport in Abu Dhabi.

Also in May, the Amir and Slovenian President H E Borut Pahor inaugurated the Islamic Center in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. In May, the Amir visited Spain and Germany. The Amir also delivered a speech at the opening session of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

On May 24, the Amir met Prime Minister of the United Kingdom H E Boris Johnson. During his visit to UK, the Amir also met Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom at the Windsor Castle in London.

In June, H H the Amir and President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela H E Nicolas Maduro held an official session of talks at the Amiri Diwan.

The Amir also received President of the Togolese Republic H E Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, and President of Namibia, H E Hage Geingob in Doha.

On June 21, H H the Amir addressed the opening session of the Qatar Economic Forum, a conference organised by Bloomberg. One June 23, the Amir honoured at the Amiri Diwan the State’s top outstanding male high school students.

In June also the Amir participated in the opening session of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali. H H the Amir visited Egypt and had bilateral discussion with President of Egypt H E Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The Amir attended the opening ceremony of the 19th Oran 2022 Mediterranean Games in Oran, Algeria.

Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited Saudi Arabia to participate in Jeddah Security and Development Summit in early July. The Amir also met H E Joe Biden, President of the United States, on the sidelines of the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development.
