Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: A warm and light-hearted exchange between Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and United States President Donald Trump brought a personal touch to the otherwise formal signing ceremony of the US–Malaysia Reciprocal Trade Agreement held on Sunday (October 26).

Both leaders appeared to share an easy rapport, exchanging smiles and friendly remarks as they prepared to formalize the landmark trade accord aimed at strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

As the two leaders reached for their pens, Prime Minister Anwar lightened the atmosphere by saying, “I think I’m going to get this pen,” drawing laughter from the audience.

During the signing, President Trump looked at Anwar’s signature and remarked, “Interesting signature.” The Malaysian leader responded with a grin, “Not as interesting as yours.”

Trump chuckled and, showing his trademark humor, added, “That’s an interesting signature he’s got. Wait a minute, I’ll show that.”

After completing his bold signature, Trump gestured toward Anwar’s pen, prompting the Malaysian Prime Minister to hold it up and joke, “White House pen,” earning another round of smiles from those present.

In a final friendly gesture, President Trump handed his pen to Prime Minister Anwar, who carefully placed it into his suit pocket — a symbolic and good-natured moment that highlighted the camaraderie between the two leaders.

The brief but memorable interaction underscored the cordial and cooperative spirit marking the day’s historic signing, which paves the way for enhanced bilateral trade, investment, and economic collaboration between Malaysia and the United States.
