Anwar Ibrahim – Efficient Transport System Crucial for Malaysia’s Future

Kuala Lumpur, The Gulf Observer: As Malaysia continues to develop and its population grows, the need for a modern, efficient transport system becomes ever more pressing, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the Forum Ilmuan Malaysia MADANI Series 6, hosted by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad.

Anwar emphasized that the government remains deeply committed to improving public transportation — whether on land, sea, or air — stressing that the matter extends beyond mere infrastructure. “This is not just about physical connectivity; it’s about the comfort and future of our people,” he said.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of selecting the best solutions that serve the public interest, considering both current needs and future demands. He noted that the government applies this holistic approach not only to transport, but also in other vital sectors like healthcare and education.

The MADANI Scientific Forum, he said, serves as an important platform for in-depth discourse on public challenges and the government’s strategies to address them. Before policies are finalized, views from diverse segments of society are considered — including those on urbanisation, national transportation policies, and even voices from often-overlooked groups such as the disabled (OKU) community.

Anwar also acknowledged that while some government decisions may be unpopular, they are necessary for safeguarding the nation’s economic future. “Sometimes, decisions that are not popular are the ones that must be made to guarantee the economic interest and long-term prosperity of the country,” he concluded.
