Ashgabat Hosts National Costume Fashion Show as Part of UNESCO Creative Cities Initiative

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The House of Models in Ashgabat hosted a vibrant fashion show this week, celebrating Turkmen national costumes as part of the city’s ongoing participation in UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network in the field of design, Turkmen official media reported.
The event showcased traditional Turkmen attire adapted for the summer season, with a strong emphasis on artisanal craftsmanship and cultural preservation. The featured collection offered modern reinterpretations of national garments, all designed and produced in Turkmenistan by local fashion models, textile artists, and embroidery specialists.
Ashgabat has been a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network since 2021, joining a global initiative that includes cities such as Berlin, Mexico City, and Glasgow. The network promotes innovation and sustainable urban development through creativity and the arts.
Unlike commercial fashion exhibitions, this show focused on honoring traditional clothing techniques and supporting the continuation of national heritage practices. The event aimed to foster cultural pride and encourage the transmission of traditional knowledge to future generations.
The audience included students, educators, creative professionals, and representatives of public organizations, who attended the show in an atmosphere of respect and quiet admiration for the artistry on display.
The event marks another step in Turkmenistan’s commitment to preserving its rich cultural identity while engaging in global creative dialogue through the UNESCO framework.
