Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: The city of Ashgabat is set to host an Economic Forum and a meeting of the Steering Council of the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) in November–December 2025, as announced by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Hojamyrat Geldimyradov during a regular government meeting held on Friday.

According to official media reports, these high-level events are being organized within the framework of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the SPECA program in 2025, underscoring the country’s active role in promoting regional economic cooperation.

Geldimyradov noted that preparations for the SPECA Days events are being carried out by Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Finance and Economy, in close coordination with the country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations Office in Geneva and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

The upcoming gatherings will bring together senior officials from SPECA member states, representatives of the UNECE leadership, as well as experts from international organizations and specialized United Nations agencies.

The SPECA program, launched in 1998, aims to facilitate the integration of Central Asian economies into the global economic system and to foster regional cooperation. Initially comprising Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, the program was later joined by Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and Turkmenistan.

The upcoming events in Ashgabat are expected to serve as a significant platform for dialogue and policy coordination, focusing on sustainable development, digital transformation, trade facilitation, innovation, and connectivity across the Central Asian region.
