Azerbaijan and Bahrain Foreign Ministers Hold Extensive Talks to Deepen Bilateral and Multilateral Cooperation

Baku, The Gulf Observer: As part of his official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov held a meeting with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani. The talks commenced in a one-on-one format and continued in an expanded meeting with the participation of delegations from both sides.

The discussions focused on bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Bahrain, with both sides reviewing the prospects for future relations and exchanging views on regional and international developments.

The ministers welcomed the fact that 2025 will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Bahrain, highlighting the significance of this milestone in further strengthening the friendship and cooperation between the two nations. They emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration across various sectors, as well as mutual support and solidarity on multilateral platforms.

The meeting underlined the untapped potential for expanding cooperation, especially by intensifying reciprocal visits, holding regular political consultations between the respective foreign ministries, and enhancing the bilateral legal framework.

Both sides stressed the need to bolster cooperation in key areas including the economy, trade, investment, tourism, high technology, humanitarian affairs, education, and capacity-building through experience exchange initiatives.

The ministers also discussed enhanced collaboration within regional and international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA). Special attention was given to potential joint initiatives within the framework of Azerbaijan’s current chairmanship of CICA and its upcoming chairmanship of the OIC Summit in 2026.

Minister Bayramov provided updates on the establishment and activities of the NAM Parliamentary Network and the Youth Organization during Azerbaijan’s NAM chairmanship. He also recalled the successful hosting of the second NAM Parliamentary Network Conference held recently in Manama.

He further briefed his Bahraini counterpart on the post-conflict developments in the South Caucasus, particularly Azerbaijan’s efforts in reconstruction and demining operations in the liberated territories, as well as the ongoing normalization process with Armenia. Bayramov highlighted existing challenges, including territorial claims against Azerbaijan enshrined in Armenia’s constitution, which hinder the peace process.

The two ministers also discussed the situation in the Middle East and exchanged views on other regional and global issues of mutual concern.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to deepening their partnership and continuing dialogue on shared priorities.
