Azerbaijan Army Marks State Sovereignty Day with Nationwide Ceremonies

Azerbaijan

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Azerbaijan Army held a series of events on 20 September to mark State Sovereignty Day, the Ministry of Defense reported.

The commemorations began with a tribute to National Leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev and the Martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland. The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was performed at the ceremonies.

Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov’s congratulatory message was conveyed to army personnel, who were reminded of the significance of the occasion. Speeches delivered during the events emphasized that, by the decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev on 19 September 2024, 20 September is officially celebrated each year as State Sovereignty Day in Azerbaijan.

Speakers noted with pride that the ideas of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev for a prosperous future are being successfully realized by his worthy successor, the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. It was further highlighted that the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020 and subsequent operations to restore Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity were historic milestones that contributed decisively to sustainable peace, security, and stability in the South Caucasus.

State Sovereignty Day was described as a symbol of the centuries-long struggle of the Azerbaijani people for independence, the restoration of the constitutional order across all national territories, the strengthening of unity, and the affirmation of the path to statehood.

As part of the commemorations, Azerbaijan Army personnel visited the graves of Martyrs, laid wreaths, and honored their memory with solemn respect and reverence.
