Azerbaijan Elected to UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Cultural Diversity for 2025–2029 Term

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Republic of Azerbaijan has been elected as a member of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the 2025–2029 term.

According to the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the elections were held on June 20, 2025, at UNESCO headquarters in Paris during the tenth session of the Conference of Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

The Intergovernmental Committee, consisting of 24 member states with a four-year mandate, is tasked with overseeing the implementation of the Convention. Azerbaijan previously served on the Committee from 2019 to 2023, and its re-election marks a continuation of its active engagement with UNESCO’s cultural agenda.

The Committee’s responsibilities include promoting the objectives of the Convention, monitoring its application, analyzing periodic reports submitted by State Parties, drafting operational guidelines, offering recommendations on challenges raised by countries, and establishing consultation mechanisms to further promote the Convention’s principles in international forums.

Azerbaijan’s re-election reflects its steadfast commitment to the protection of cultural diversity, the promotion of cultural expression, and the enhancement of international cooperation in these areas. This achievement also highlights Azerbaijan’s effective cultural diplomacy and its contribution to advancing UNESCO’s global cultural mission.
