Azerbaijan Finalizes Membership in Developing-8 Organization

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan has officially completed its accession to the Developing-8 (D-8) Organization for Economic Cooperation by submitting the ratification documents to the D-8 Secretariat in Istanbul, Türkiye.

According to News Hub Consultants, the D-8 Secretariat confirmed that Azerbaijan finalized the ratification process on March 19, marking the conclusion of its membership journey.

Azerbaijan’s application for membership was unanimously approved during the XI Summit of D-8 Heads of State and Government in Cairo, Egypt, on December 19, 2024. The ratification was formalized through Law No. 149-VIIQ, which was adopted by the Azerbaijani Parliament on March 7, 2025, and subsequently signed into law by President Ilham Aliyev, ensuring its official entry into force.

The D-8 Secretariat welcomed Azerbaijan’s accession, describing it as a significant milestone that would strengthen cooperation and create new opportunities to advance the organization’s economic objectives. As the ninth member, Azerbaijan is expected to contribute to the D-8’s mission of promoting economic development among member states.

Established on June 15, 1997, in Istanbul, the D-8 currently comprises Türkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Egypt, and Nigeria. The inclusion of Azerbaijan further expands the organization’s reach and economic potential.
