Azerbaijan FM Jeyhun Bayramov Condoles with Iranian Counterpart on Death of Ayatollah Khamenei

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held a telephone conversation on Sunday with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyid Abbas Araghchi to discuss the situation arising from ongoing military operations in Iran and the broader regional escalation.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the two sides exchanged views on the current developments and the security challenges facing the region.

During the call, Iran’s foreign minister briefed his Azerbaijani counterpart on the latest situation and outlined the steps being taken by Tehran in response to recent events.

Minister Bayramov expressed serious concern over what he described as the tragic escalation of tensions in the region. He also conveyed condolences on the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyid Ali Khamenei, as well as innocent civilians affected by the recent developments.

Both ministers voiced hope that military operations would cease in the near future and emphasized that the existing situation should be resolved exclusively through dialogue and diplomatic means, in full accordance with the norms and principles of international law.

Bayramov further reiterated Azerbaijan’s consistent position that its territory cannot and will not be used by any country against neighboring and friendly Iran.

The conversation also included an exchange of views on other matters of mutual interest, underscoring the continued diplomatic engagement between Baku and Tehran amid heightened regional tensions.
