Azerbaijan Joins Global Leaders at Beijing Xiangshan Forum

Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, themed “Promoting Peace for a Shared Future,” officially commenced on September 13, 2024, in the Chinese capital. The high-profile event is co-organized by the Chinese Ministry of National Defense and the Academy of Military Science, with representatives from more than 100 countries and international organizations in attendance.

Azerbaijan is represented at the forum by a delegation led by Deputy Defence Minister Agil Gurbanov, according to reports from the National Hydrometeorological Committee (NHC). The forum runs from September 12 to 14, gathering over 500 participants, including more than 30 defense ministers and military chiefs. In addition, more than 200 experts and scholars, both domestic and international, are contributing to the discussions on peace and global security.

As a platform for multilateral dialogue, the Beijing Xiangshan Forum has emerged as a focal point for China’s role in global peacemaking efforts. This year’s agenda reflects China’s involvement in several significant international negotiations, including brokering peace between Iran and Saudi Arabia, maintaining open communication channels between Ukraine and Russia, and promoting unity among Palestinian parties in pursuit of a two-state solution. These initiatives underscore China’s position as a key actor in mediating and resolving conflicts on the world stage.

The forum aims to foster discussions on achieving global peace and common security in the face of mounting challenges. With the international community confronting a range of complex issues, the forum serves as a venue for inclusive dialogue, offering a hopeful and constructive vision for the future. Many view the Beijing Xiangshan Forum as a counterpoint to the Shangri-La Dialogue, presenting an optimistic alternative for global harmony and mutual understanding.

As the 11th edition of the forum continues, it is expected to shape critical conversations on peace and security, further strengthening China’s influence in global diplomacy and conflict resolution.
