Azerbaijan

Gabala, The Gulf Observer: A high-level meeting with Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, was held on the sidelines of a bilateral roundtable under the “Peace Bridge” initiative in Gabala, bringing together representatives of Azerbaijani and Armenian civil society.

During the engagement, Hajiyev held an open exchange of views with participants and responded to questions raised by members of the Armenian delegation, reflecting a spirit of dialogue and engagement between the two sides.

The Azerbaijani government’s firm commitment to the peace agenda was underscored throughout the meeting. Hajiyev reaffirmed Baku’s adherence to the understandings reached between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Washington, highlighting the importance of maintaining the momentum generated by the Washington Summit.

He also noted tangible progress in bilateral relations, including the establishment of trade links and the facilitation of transit of goods from Azerbaijan to Armenia. Emphasizing future prospects, Hajiyev stated that the implementation of the TRIPP project is expected to significantly transform the regional transportation landscape and enhance connectivity.

Highlighting the importance of continued engagement, Hajiyev stressed that as peace negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia are inherently bilateral, confidence-building measures and exchanges between civil societies should also maintain a bilateral character.

He further emphasized that ensuring lasting peace and security in the South Caucasus remains critically important, particularly in the context of rising global instability and ongoing conflicts in various parts of the world.

The meeting formed part of broader efforts under the “Peace Bridge” initiative aimed at fostering dialogue, trust, and cooperation between the peoples of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
