Azerbaijan, UK Discuss Strategic Cooperation and Regional Security

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with UK Minister of State for Europe, North America and Overseas Territories Stephen Doughty to discuss a wide range of bilateral and regional issues, the Foreign Ministry reported.
The talks covered cooperation in politics, economy, energy security, connectivity, climate change, environment, humanitarian affairs, education, as well as regional and international security. Both sides underlined Azerbaijan’s role as a reliable partner in energy security, noting the significance of moving from traditional energy projects to the development of alternative energy sources. In this regard, the ministers praised the cooperation between SOCAR and bp in renewable energy.
The meeting highlighted the active participation of the UK delegation, led by the Prime Minister, in the session held under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts in addressing global climate challenges.
On education, the sides welcomed new partnerships between higher education institutions and reaffirmed the need to further strengthen state-level programs and initiatives.
Minister Bayramov also briefed his counterpart on the post-conflict regional situation, particularly progress in the Azerbaijan–Armenia normalization process. He noted that the initialing of the Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations and the joint appeal to close the OSCE Minsk Process and its related structures at the historic Washington meeting on August 8 marked major steps forward in achieving lasting peace.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on other matters of mutual interest. On the same day, the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom held political consultations, led by Azerbaijani Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev and UK Minister of State Stephen Doughty.
