Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan Discuss Strategies to Attract New Cargo to Middle Corridor

Tashkent, The Gulf Observer: Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, currently on an official visit to Uzbekistan, engaged in significant bilateral and trilateral meetings with his counterparts, Zufar Narzullayev, Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways, and Komil Mirzoali, Chairman of the Railways of Tajikistan. The meetings, confirmed by Azerbaijan Railways to APA-Economics, focused on enhancing cooperation in the railway sector.

The discussions centered on boosting freight traffic along key international routes, including Central Asia – Europe – Central Asia and China – Europe – China. The leaders emphasized the importance of promoting these routes on the global stage to capitalize on emerging opportunities. They also reviewed ongoing projects aimed at increasing cargo transportation via the Middle Corridor and highlighted the need for competitive and digital services to attract new business.

A significant outcome of the meetings was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the expansion of cooperation among the three railway authorities. This agreement underscores their commitment to further strengthening ties and enhancing logistical capabilities across the region.

In addition to these high-level meetings, the Azerbaijani delegation participated in a Round Table with local logistics companies, fostering dialogue and exploring collaborative opportunities to advance regional rail transport infrastructure.

These strategic discussions and agreements are expected to play a pivotal role in the development of a more integrated and efficient railway network in Central Asia, facilitating greater trade and economic growth.
