Azerbaijan’s Economic Council Reviews 2026 Budget Projections and Macroeconomic Forecasts

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The Economic Council of Azerbaijan convened on September 12–13 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Ali Asadov to review draft projections for the 2026 state and consolidated budgets, as well as indicators for the following three years.

The meeting agenda covered global economic trends, key assumptions underpinning budget forecasts, the current economic situation, and updated macroeconomic projections for 2025–2029. The Council also examined the main goals, directions, and targets of Azerbaijan’s budget policy for the 2026–2029 period.

Participants discussed financing mechanisms for reconstruction and restoration projects in Karabakh and East Zangezur, the implementation of the Great Return Program, and the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework. Other key topics included the application of result-based budgeting, parameters of the budget rule, and ongoing policies to strengthen macroeconomic and financial stability.

Presentations were delivered by Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov, Minister of Finance Sahil Babayev, Governor of the Central Bank Taleh Kazimov, and Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Anar Aliyev. Council members held detailed discussions on the issues presented.

At the conclusion of the meeting, relevant institutions were instructed to finalize the 2026 budget package, incorporating the views and proposals of the Council, and to submit it to the Cabinet of Ministers for onward transmission to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
