Azerbaijan’s Expanding Energy Capacity to Support AI and Data Infrastructure: President Aliyev

Baku, The Gulf Observer: Azerbaijan’s substantial and growing energy potential positions the country as a strategic player in emerging technologies, President Ilham Aliyev said during a joint press statement with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini.
Highlighting the country’s competitive advantage, President Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan currently has an unused energy potential of approximately two gigawatts. This figure, he said, is projected to rise to eight gigawatts over the next five years as new projects come online and capacity expands.
“An energy source is one of the main factors for the operation of artificial intelligence and data centres,” the Azerbaijani leader emphasized, underscoring the importance of energy security and supply in supporting digital transformation, advanced computing and AI-driven industries.
The remarks reflect Azerbaijan’s broader strategy to leverage its renewable and conventional energy resources to support technological development, strengthen regional cooperation and enhance its role in global energy and digital infrastructure networks.
