Azerbaijan’s PM Ali Asadov Praises Turkmenistan’s Neutrality, Regional Cooperation at International Forum

Ashgabat, The Gulf Observer: On December 12, an international forum marking the International Year of Peace and Trust 2025, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality commenced in Ashgabat. Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Ali Asadov, participated in the plenary session of the forum.

In his address, PM Ali Asadov lauded Turkmenistan’s UN-recognized neutrality and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s support for related United Nations resolutions, including the “International Year of Peace and Trust – 2025.” He also praised Turkmenistan’s initiative to establish a University of Neutrality under UN auspices and expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to actively participate in the university’s activities.

Highlighting the shared commitment of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan as active members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), the Prime Minister underscored their adherence to the principles of dialogue, solidarity, and multilateral cooperation.

PM Ali Asadov emphasized the deep historical, spiritual, and cultural ties between the two nations, describing their relationship as fraternal and noting the recent dynamic growth in bilateral relations. He highlighted that the reciprocal visits and high-level meetings between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan have elevated ties to a strategic partnership of a qualitatively new level. In this context, he noted the significance of President Ilham Aliyev’s working visit to Turkmenistan in August, including the trilateral meeting with Uzbekistan, as a platform to enhance regional cooperation.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of the visit by Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, to Azerbaijan in July, including his visits to the cities of Fuzuli and Shusha. He expressed gratitude to Turkmenistan for initiating the construction of a mosque in Fuzuli, whose foundation was laid during the 12th Summit of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Gabala in October.

PM Ali Asadov further highlighted Azerbaijan’s strengthening ties with Central Asia and emphasized the significance of Azerbaijan’s full participation in the Consultative Meeting of Heads of State of Central Asia, reflecting its growing role in regional cooperation.
