Bahrain to Host 54th Session of Arab Information Ministers’ Council
Manama, The Gulf Observer: The Kingdom of Bahrain is set to host the 54th session of the Arab Information Ministers’ Council on May 29. The event, organized in collaboration with the Media and Communication Sector of the Arab League and the Ministry of Information of Bahrain, will see the convergence of key information ministers and representatives from across the Arab world.
In the lead-up to the main session, the 101st session of the Permanent Committee for Arab Media and the 19th session of the Executive Bureau of the Council of Arab Information Ministers will be held on May 27 and 28, respectively.
Distinguished attendees will include information ministers from various Arab countries, a delegation from the Arab League led by Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, as well as heads of media organizations and unions with observer status.
Ambassador Khattabi emphasized that the Permanent Committee for Arab Media will review the draft agenda, incorporating recommendations from member states and partners, which will then be submitted to the Council through the Executive Office. This session will also assess the implementation of decisions from the 53rd session held in Rabat and the recommendations from the 18th session of the Executive Bureau in Tripoli.
The draft agenda includes continued media support for Palestine and the execution of the Arab media action plan abroad. Key initiatives to be discussed include the establishment of the observatory and integrated platform, the Arab Institute for Peace Journalism, and the recommendations of the Arab Electronic Media Committee.
Additionally, the Permanent Committee will address the implementation of the interim plan for the joint Arab media strategy to combat terrorism, following its adoption at the 33rd Arab Summit. The committee will also consider recommendations from the forum on influencer marketing and content development.
Other agenda items include strategies to promote environmental media awareness, enhance the role of Arab women in media, and adopt the Arab Media Code of Honour. The General Secretariat’s initiative to incorporate the electoral dimension in media coverage of electoral events will also be reviewed, based on proposals from member states.
This pivotal gathering underscores Bahrain’s commitment to fostering media collaboration and addressing key issues within the Arab information landscape.
