Baku Hosts Opening Ceremony of World Leaders Climate Action Summit at COP29

Baku, The Gulf Observer: The World Leaders Climate Action Summit officially opened on November 12, as part of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change in Baku, Azerbaijan. The opening ceremony was attended by heads of state, government leaders, and key delegates from around the world.

The ceremony was led by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who welcomed participants to the summit. A family photo was taken following the ceremonial welcome.

President Aliyev delivered the opening speech, emphasizing the importance of urgent global cooperation to address climate change and its far-reaching impacts. He was followed by remarks from UN Secretary-General Guterres, who called for continued international collaboration to accelerate climate action. Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur and former Executive Director of UN-Habitat, also addressed the summit.

A special video message from NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station was presented to participants, offering a unique perspective on climate change from space. The opening ceremony was followed by a cultural program, celebrating the global unity in the fight against climate change.
