Bali Sets Ambitious Target of 6.5 Million Foreign Tourists in 2025

Denpasar, The Gulf Observer: The provincial government of Bali is aiming to attract 6.5 million foreign tourists in 2025, Head of the Bali Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, announced on Tuesday. Additionally, the province is targeting up to 10.5 million domestic tourists for the year.

Pemayun noted that the foreign tourist target is realistic, considering Bali welcomed approximately 6.3 million foreign visitors in 2024 via direct flights. When including foreign tourists arriving through Gilimanuk Port or domestic flights from other Indonesian regions, the total reached an estimated 7 million.

“The 6.3 million arrivals are from direct flights, but when we account for other entry points, the figure is closer to 7 million,” he said.

Addressing Challenges in Tourism

Looking ahead, Pemayun highlighted key challenges in maintaining and boosting foreign tourist arrivals, including congestion, waste management, and land-use conversion. He emphasized the provincial government’s commitment to tackling these issues through strengthened law enforcement and collaboration with tourism stakeholders.

“We will focus on law enforcement because, in terms of regulations, tourism players believe the framework is complete. What remains is proper implementation and synchronization,” Pemayun said.

Calendar of Events for 2025

To enhance Bali’s appeal to international visitors, the Bali Tourism Office has launched the 2025 Calendar of Events, featuring 54 events, with 45 of them centered around the island’s rich cultural heritage. Key highlights include:

  • The ogoh-ogoh parade in March, showcasing giant effigies as part of Bali’s unique cultural traditions.
  • The Bali International Air Show in September, a major event expected to draw global attention.

The government is optimistic that these initiatives, coupled with efforts to address tourism challenges, will reinforce Bali’s reputation as a world-class destination and help achieve its ambitious targets for 2025.
