Bali Welcomes UK Cooperation in Tourism, Waste and Traffic Management

Bali

Denpasar, The Gulf Observer: The Bali provincial government has welcomed initiatives to strengthen cooperation with the United Kingdom in the tourism, waste management, and traffic management sectors as part of efforts to support the island’s sustainable development.

The commitment was expressed during a meeting between Bali Governor Wayan Koster and United Kingdom Deputy Ambassador Matthew Downing in Denpasar. Governor Koster stated that Bali aims to optimize its infrastructure through international partnerships, including collaboration with the UK Embassy.

“My target is to resolve waste management issues within two years, and by 2030 to achieve significant improvements in traffic congestion and overall infrastructure,” Koster said in a statement issued on Saturday.

Addressing waste management, the governor emphasized that the provincial government is adopting a comprehensive upstream-to-downstream strategy. This approach includes plans to develop a waste-to-energy facility with the capacity to process more than 1,000 tons of waste per day.

The proposed collaboration reflects Bali’s broader efforts to enhance environmental sustainability, improve urban mobility, and strengthen the resilience of its tourism sector through international cooperation.
