BGN Urges Stronger Public Communication from Nutrition Service Units to Safeguard Free Meals Program

Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has called on Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPGs), which support the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, to strengthen communication efforts in response to food safety concerns.
“SPPGs are not only nutritional service kitchens but also the faces of the BGN as the spearhead of the MBG program,” said Khairul Hidayati, Head of the Legal and Public Relations Bureau of BGN, in an official statement on Sunday.
Hidayati underlined that public trust in the free meals program — a flagship initiative of President Prabowo Subianto’s administration — depends on clear, accurate, and timely information. She noted that any incident related to food safety can spread rapidly, potentially shaping public perception.
“This condition requires us to provide services swiftly, while also offering a proper explanation to the public. People have the right to clear, accurate, and convincing information,” she stressed.
She further emphasized that public communication must be integral to nutritional services. Beyond managing operations, SPPG leaders are expected to represent BGN effectively in their respective regions. Hidayati added that by leveraging digital technology, enhancing human resource capacity, and building strong communication networks, the SPPGs can transform challenges into opportunities.
“Good services must go hand in hand with good communication. This is a simple principle that we must uphold,” she remarked.
Launched on January 6, 2025, the MBG program is a key social initiative of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka for the 2024–2029 term. It aims to improve the nutritional status of children under five, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and school students up to high school level.
Earlier, President Prabowo reiterated his commitment to the program, earmarking Rp335 trillion (approximately US$20.12 billion) for its continuation in the 2026 draft state budget.
