Biak: Included in Indonesia's 2024 National Tourism Priority Program

Biak Numfor, The Gulf Observer: Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry has elevated Biak Numfor, Papua, to the status of a national tourism priority program. This designation follows the successful hosting of the 2023 Sail Teluk Cenderawasih, marking Biak Numfor’s inclusion in this year’s national tourism agenda. Onny Dangeubun, Head of the Biak Numfor Tourism Office, revealed that the region’s beaches and historical sites from World War II are key attractions. With Biak Numfor now recognized as a national tourist zone, the local government has augmented facilities and infrastructure at these attractions, including Samau Beach and the mangrove tourism park in Rim village.

Last year, with central government support, significant infrastructure development took place at various locations, such as Yenyabo Beach in Sorido village and the modern fishermen’s village Samber in Binyeri.

The region boasts additional scenic spots like Segara Indah, Soryar, Anggopi, Anggaduber, Waterbasis, Wari, and Tiga Raja beaches, along with historical landmarks like the Binsari Japanese Cave and the Paray Monument from World War II.

Biak Numfor’s strategic geographical location is emphasized by the government as conducive to the development of industrial zones, tourism, fisheries, and space research.
