Jakarta, The Gulf Observer: The National Counter Terrorism Agency (BNPT) is amplifying its efforts to protect Indonesian migrants in Kinabalu, Malaysia, amid rising concerns over extremism. During a visit to the Indonesian Consulate General on July 20, BNPT Head Mohammad Rycko Amelza Dahniel underscored the critical role of national unity in combating radicalism. He emphasized the importance of upholding Indonesia’s national motto of unity in diversity, which involves embracing differences while remaining vigilant against the spread of extremist ideologies.

The BNPT’s visit aimed to bolster national awareness among vulnerable groups, including women, adolescents, and children. Indonesian Consul General Rafail Walangitan praised the BNPT’s initiative, highlighting the transnational nature of terrorism and the necessity for ongoing vigilance. Imam Subekti, BNPT Director of International Legal Instruments, presented research indicating that some Indonesian migrant workers have been involved in terrorism-related activities, such as social media propaganda and fundraising. The visit concluded with a screening of the documentary Pilihan (Choices), which examines the exploitation of social media to recruit female Indonesian migrant workers into extremist groups.
