Camel Racing festival to kick off in Oman
Muscat, The Gulf Observer: The sixth edition of Al Bashayer Arabian Camel Racing festival will be held on February 13, 2023 in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
The festival will take place during the period from 13-18 February at the Al Bashayer Camel Racing Field in the Wilayat of Adam, Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate, with the participation of camel owners from Oman and the GCC countries.
His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and the Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, affirmed that the Al Bashayer Festival comes in its sixth edition in this season within the framework of the lofty vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik to increase interest in everything that preserves authentic Omani customs, traditions and values, and achieves the material and moral benefit of the Omani society.
His Highness said in a statement: “The Al Bashayer Festival for Purebred Arabian Camel Races is among the most prominent sporting, social, cultural and tourism events in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC countries. Al Bashayer Square is a meeting place for camel owners and camels competing with each other to obtain sporting achievements, and to transfer the knowledge gained on how to take these ancient camels to the best sports levels to enhance the competitive value of Omani camels.”
“The festival is concerned with cultural aspects and social solidarity through the events accompanying it. Every year, the organising committee is keen to hold various cultural events in which Omani, Gulf and Arab creators participate,” His Highness added.
His Highness explained that the festival is launched with an economic vision by strengthening the local community’s partnership in the economic movement accompanying the festival, and providing investment opportunities for entrepreneurs by offering various products to the public, participants and tourists visiting the festival’s activities and other facilities in the field, in coordination with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
The Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and the Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan indicated that the competition, which always characterises this festival, gets more exciting every year by increasing the number of participants from the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC countries.
His Highness expressed his wishes of success to all camel owners participating in this festival, who were – and still are – the source of perpetuity for this sport, with their care and interest in purebred Omani camels.
