Chief Minister’s Stroke Management Program Provides Lifesaving Treatment to Over 700 Patients

Lahore, Dr. Lubna Farah: The Stroke Management Program, launched by the Chief Minister, has emerged as a pioneering healthcare initiative in the province, aimed at strengthening emergency medical response and ensuring access to free, timely treatment for stroke patients.

Introduced as part of the government’s broader healthcare reform strategy, the program focuses on delivering rapid medical interventions during the medically critical “golden hours” — a crucial window that significantly increases survival rates and reduces the risk of long-term disability.

According to official data, more than 700 patients have benefited from immediate treatment under the initiative. Authorities report that the majority of interventions were successfully administered within the golden hours, highlighting the effectiveness of the program’s rapid-response framework.

Field Operations and Implementation

Under the initiative, specialized stroke management units have been established within the emergency departments of government hospitals. These dedicated units are equipped to provide swift diagnosis and treatment, significantly enhancing the province’s emergency care capacity.

A key component of the program is the provision of the clot-dissolving drug TNK free of cost. Despite its high market price—ranging between PKR 350,000 and 400,000 per injection—the government ensures that eligible patients receive the medication without any financial burden.

Health officials describe the initiative as a transformative step in public healthcare delivery, particularly in addressing life-threatening emergencies such as stroke, where every minute is critical. The program is being widely recognized as a milestone in improving access to advanced medical treatment for vulnerable populations.
