China and Russia Strengthen Coordination on East Asia Cooperation

Vientiane, The Gulf Observer: In a meeting held in Laos’ capital, Vientiane, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized the importance of maintaining communication and coordination between China and Russia on East Asia cooperation. Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made these remarks during discussions with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, on Thursday.

Highlighting the robust nature of China-Russia relations, Wang stated that the partnership between the two nations is characterized by maturity, stability, resilience, and independence. He noted the strong political mutual trust, deepening strategic coordination, and broad cooperation prospects that define the relationship. Amid a volatile and complex international landscape, Wang reiterated China’s readiness to collaborate with Russia in upholding mutual interests and supporting each other against external disturbances and obstacles.

Wang further articulated China’s commitment to working with Russia to support the ASEAN-centered, open, and inclusive regional cooperation architecture. He emphasized the need to promote existing East Asia mechanisms to deepen cooperation consensus, fostering regional peace, stability, and prosperity.

Lavrov congratulated China on the successful conclusion of the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, highlighting its significance for China’s development and the global economic recovery. He praised the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, noting that Russia and China have maintained close communication, strengthened strategic collaboration, and upheld a fair and just international order. Lavrov underscored the joint efforts of both nations in practicing genuine multilateralism and contributing to a multipolar world.

The Russian foreign minister expressed Russia’s commitment to supporting the centrality of ASEAN and preventing external interference and infiltration. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation within multilateral mechanisms such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS.

Wang reaffirmed China’s full support for Russia in fulfilling its responsibilities as the rotating chair of BRICS, in preparation for the upcoming summit in Kazan. Lavrov, in turn, pledged Russia’s support for China as the rotating president of the SCO.

Lavrov also congratulated China on its role in promoting the signing of the Beijing Declaration on Ending Division and Strengthening Palestinian National Unity by Palestinian factions, and committed to working towards restoring peace in the Middle East.
