China Denounces US Sanctions Against High-Tech Companies as Attempt to Suppress Development
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: The Chinese Foreign Ministry has slammed the United States’ recent sanctions against high-tech Chinese companies, labeling them as a blatant attempt to suppress these enterprises in the name of human rights.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks at a regular press briefing on Wednesday, following the US Commerce Department’s addition of two high-tech Chinese companies to its “Entity List” for alleged “human rights violations.”
“This is just a pretext they are using to advance their objective,” Mao stated. “Such schemes will not succeed.”
Mao emphasized that if the United States truly cares about human rights, it should address its own human rights deficit first, rather than politicizing and weaponizing human rights issues to harm the interests and meddle in the internal affairs of other countries.
The spokesperson’s remarks come as tensions between China and the US continue to escalate over trade, technology, and security issues. The US sanctions have been met with widespread condemnation from Beijing, with officials accusing Washington of attempting to undermine China’s economic and technological development.
China has repeatedly denied allegations of human rights violations and has called on the US to respect its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Chinese government has also accused Washington of hypocrisy, pointing to its own human rights record and criticizing the US for its treatment of minority groups and migrant workers.
The dispute highlights the ongoing rivalry between the world’s two largest economies, with both sides engaged in a heated competition for global influence and technological supremacy.
In response to the US sanctions, China has taken steps to bolster its domestic technology sector and has urged other countries to join it in resisting Washington’s efforts to impose its own standards on the global economy.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s statement serves as a clear warning to Washington that Beijing will not be intimidated by the US’ attempts to suppress its economic and technological development.
