China Issues Level-IV Emergency Response for Flooding as Typhoon Bebinca Approaches
Beijing, The Gulf Observer: China’s Ministry of Water Resources has issued a Level-IV emergency response for flooding in anticipation of Typhoon Bebinca’s impact on the southeastern regions. The alert, issued on Saturday, covers Shanghai and the provinces of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui, where heavy rainfall is expected.
The ministry forecasts that water levels in some medium and small rivers in these areas could surpass warning thresholds due to the intense rain brought by the approaching typhoon. Authorities are prioritizing flood prevention in small and medium-sized rivers, as well as safeguarding against mountain torrents, in an effort to protect lives and property.
China’s emergency response system for flood control operates on a four-tier scale, with Level I being the most severe. The Level-IV response indicates a significant risk of flooding, necessitating close monitoring and proactive measures to mitigate damage.
According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, Typhoon Bebinca is expected to make landfall along the coast between Taizhou City in Zhejiang Province and Qidong City in Jiangsu Province between Sunday night and Monday morning. The storm is forecasted to bring heavy rainfall to the affected regions, heightening concerns about potential flooding.
Authorities are coordinating flood control efforts to ensure the safety of residents and minimize the impact of the approaching typhoon.
